The Spanish airline will no longer fly to the Central American country until June 2018.
Wamos Air announced its decision to suspend flights operating since June between Madrid and Guatemala. The airline began the route between Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) and La Aurora International Airport (GUA) on June 27, and until 26 September had mobilized 4,711 passengers.
The suspension came into effect on 27 September and continues until 5 June 2018.
The main reason for the decision is the low occupation of aircraft in low season, due to that most of the passengers come from Spain and travel according to the European holiday period.
Jorge Mario Chajón, director of the Guatemalan Tourism Institute (Inguat) claimed that the occupation of Guatemalan passengers to Spain is very low to sustain operating costs.
