Pilot receives recognition for landing in bad shape

A pilot made a hard landing with the windshield broken because of a strong hail.

The last Thursday, a pilot of the Turkish airline AtlasGlobal made a landing in bad conditions when a sudden storm with hail the size of golf balls destroyed the windshield and nose of the aircraft.

The Airbus A320 was operating a flight to Erkan, Cyprus when the severe storm struck the aircraft. The Ukrainian Captain Alexander Akopov was able to made a landing literally “blind” at the Istanbul Ataturk Airport, saving the lives of 121 passengers and six crew members.

On Monday, the Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, awarded the Medal of the ‘order of courage’ to the pilot Akopov for his skills that saved hundreds of lives.
