Kazan Airport reaches the record of 2.5 million passengers

The Russian airport reached a historic figure thanks to the opening of new routes and an increase in flights in existing ones.

The Kazan International Airport, located in the city of the same name, 770 kilometers east of Moscow, marked a record of passengers transported reaching the historic figure of 2.5 million in departures and arrivals flights.

The expansion of the route network and the increase in the number of flights in the existing ones were the main factors of growth in passenger traffic. During 2017, new destinations were launched: Riga, Kaliningrad, Gorno-Altaisk, Surgut, Salekhard, Naryan-Mar, Novy Urengoy and Noyabrsk. Meanwhile, the number of flights to cities such as Sochi, Baku, Moscow, Dubai, Larnaca and Antalya increased.

According to the press service of the International Airport of Kazan, the volume of traffic on international routes increased 2 times.

On the other hand, the technological factor also helped the growth of the airport. Recently, the innovative “mobile platform” system was installed, which allows the rapid management of technological processes, automatically assigning production resources. Allowing for example, a better and more efficient handling and classification of luggage, reducing to zero the possibility that a suitcase is sent in the wrong direction.

In addition, the new system allows to know the location of each employee and mobile unit of the airport in real time.

The airport moved 1,912,954 passengers during 2016, and this year it has reached 2,500,251 to date. The national routes that marked the highest percentage of growth are Ufa (99%), Gelendzhik (87%), Saint Petersburg (43%), Moscow (28%) and Nizhnevartovsk (23%). The most demanded international routes are Dubai (205%),  Cam Ranh (31%), Bangkok (30%), Helsinski (28%), Goa (23%), Phuket (21%) and Barcelona (15%).
