The capitals of the United Arab Emirates and Azerbaijan were not linked by any operator.
The airline Etihad Airways started on March 2 a new route, between the cities of Abu Dhabi and Baku. Currently no other operator operates the route, so the service has been received with great enthusiasm.
Since 2015, when UAE approved a visa waiver for citizens of Azerbaijan, the interest of travelers in the country increased, resulting in a large number of visitors.
The route between Abu Dhabi International Airport (AUH) and Baku Heydar Aliyev International Airport (GYD) is operated by Airbus A320 aircraft three times a week.
Although the airline Azerbaijan Airlines does not fly the Abu Dhabi-Baku route, it maintains a code-share agreement with Etihad Airways in the new service.
The most direct competitors are Qatar Airways that flies to Baku from Doha twice a day, and flydubai that operates the Dubai-Baku route with three daily flights.
