The airline based in the United Arab Emirates plans to start a route between Dubai and Mexico with a stopover in Barcelona before the end of the year.
Emirates reported that the Minister of Development and the Secretary of State for Infrastructure, Transport and Housing of Mexico authorized the airline to operate flights between Mexico City and Dubai with a stopover in Barcelona.
In turn, the General Directorate of Civil Aviation of Spain granted the fifth freedom to the company, which will allow it to transport passengers and cargo between Barcelona and Mexico City.
Emirates has not disclosed further details of the new service, such as aircraft to use, prices or schedules, but confirmed that the new flights will be operated daily.
In this way, the North American country will be linked to the city of Dubai and from there to the wide network of destinations of Emirates. Passengers will also be able to link Mexico City and Barcelona, a route that was stopped flying in 2012 when Aeromexico suspended it.
It is estimated that the new Emirates service will benefit more than 150,000 passengers per year.
