Cuba plane crash: 110 killed

The aircraft of Global Air crashed today at noon after taking off from Havana.

A Boeing 737-200 plane with registration XA-UHZ crashed at noon today, May 18, in the vicinity of Havana, Cuba, leaving 110 dead.

The aircraft belonging to the Mexican company Aerolíneas Damojh S.A. of C.V. (Global Air), was providing service to Cubana de Aviación, through a leasing system with crew.

For reasons being investigated, the Boeing crashed at 12:08 local time, after taking off from the José Martí International Airport (HAV) of Havana, operating flight CU-972, bound to the Frank Pais International Airport, in the city of Holguin (HOG).

The plane fell on agricultural lands located between the José Martí Airport and the municipality of Santiago de Las Vegas. On board, 104 passengers and 9 crew members were traveling. Only 3 female passengers survived.

The authorities are already investigating the causes of the accident.
