United Kingdom and United Arab Emirates launch joint venture

The agreement happened under the Dubai Airshow 2017.

On November 12, the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates signed the creation of a new innovative joint venture. It was held in the presence of the Secretary of State of the United Kingdom for International Trade, Dr. Liam Fox.

The new company will be based in the United Kingdom and will be formed by the manufacturer QinetiQ and Middle East General Enterprises. Its main objective is based on investment in infrastructure development and training designed to allow a new UAE workforce to provide specialized manufacturing of maritime, land and air targets, both for the use of Emirates armed forces as for export throughout the region.

“For us, this is a real statement of intent to invest in the UAE to transfer knowledge so that we can hire new recruits and develop local Emiratis to be able to do skilled jobs related to the assembly, test and supply of a target service to the armed forces here in the UAE. It’s the way that we want to build business going forward, where we make investments in local markets in partnership with local companies that we feel provide us with enduring capability.”, said Ian Farley, QinetiQ international CEO.
