An ambitious project of €158 million to accompany the airport growth.
The Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD), has been experiencing tremendous growth over the past years. In 2016, 11.441.999 passengers used the airport, the main of Hungary, and for this year it could move more than 12 million passengers, breaking yet another record.
To meet the growing demand, the operator of the airport has prepared the bud:2020, a development programme, envisioning a new Pier B, a hotel and a railway connection to the city.
Jost Lammers, CEO of Budapest Airport said that the investment over the next three years will allow a further growth and includes the construction of a 145-room airport hotel opening later this year, a new pier in the non-Schengen area due to be completed by S18, check-in extensions opening this summer, and several new facilities for cargo integrators and handlers.
Other important construction is the railway connection between the airport and Kőbánya-Kispest, and an underground railway station that will be built at Terminal 2.
According to Lammers, the railway station and the new terminal would be completed between 2019 and 2021.
