The agreement was carried out at the Dubai Airshow and amounts to 1,300 million dollars.
Boeing and Ethiopian Airlines signed an agreement in the Dubai Airshow for four cargo aircraft for a price that amounts to $ 1.3 billion dollars. The aircraft would be delivered to Ethiopian between 2018 and 2019. Two of them were a reaffirmation of a commitment that was announced in the month of June.
In addition to freighters, the African airline is debating an option for a long-range 777x passenger plane that must enter service in 2019.
The agreement between Boeing and Ethiopian Airlines would provide a basis for future agreements, as the airline intends to replace its medium-sized aircraft fleet and would be interested in acquiring between 10 and 20 of Boeing’s New Midsize Airplane (NMA) that was announced early of year. The aircraft will have a capacity for between 220 and 270 passengers and a double aisle, would enter service in 2025.
“Ours is a fast growing region and we expect growth. There is enough demand for us and competitors”, said the executive director of Ethiopian Airlines, Tewolde Gebremariam.
